  • Another question on analysis

While looking back on a game I noticed the analysis said my move was an inaccuracy which put me ( black ) at -5.56. The line under said the best move would have been -6.65. So I backed up, rep[aced the inaccuracy with the suggested move and the rating didn’t go to the -6.65 as expected but went to -5.33 which not…

  • I have a general idea of how to attack with the Stonewall, but with the Owen’s i often dont know what to do even after winning the free pawn. What should my plans be?

  • Question on the Owens……..

I’m new to analyzing games and would appreciate your input on my conclusion.

Following the mainline (as per the moves provided by Nelson), am I correct in saying that when I get to the end (move 13), the only advantage black has, is that white has 2 sets of doubled pawns?

    • Joseph I was looking for this and didnt see it. Was this in an actual game?

      • If you go to lessons 3;2 and 3;3 the opening lessons, and click on the word materials which is above the lesson panel , you can download the opening lines for the stonewall and owens. It covers multiple variations

        • Think I am missing a decimal point. 1500? At the rate I’m going I’ll be glad If I can maintain 150!

I’m learning but unfortunately, I’m playing worse than ever. Losing games to players that are lower rated than me all the time.

I’m rated around 500 and dropping fast. Think I’ve dropped to 450 now. It seems like everyone in my rating…

          • I understand where you are coming from, When I was at 500 I felt the players were way to good. I think a lot of these players are actually higher rated they just created a new account. Now that I made it to 1000 I feel players are good but not as good as some of the 500’s I played.

Stick with it you will improve. Make sure you are analyzing…

            • Thank you, Robert, for the encouragement . I hope my post didn’t come across as a complaint against the course . I was expressing frustration with my cobwebbed coleslaw cluttered brain.

I know that as I stick to the program I will improve. I’m only halfway thru and I’m starting to see patterns and looking for ideas I wouldn’t have…

            • I’d be curious to know what time controls you’re playing also? For example, I’m rated 1200 Rapid, but only about 500 Blitz. And the Blitz rating is fairly real, I just haven’t gotten the hang of playing fast. I lose on time a lot in Blitz, and/or play bad moves under time pressure.

              • Hi. Keith. I’m playing 15/10. I don’t think I’m under time issues, I think I just get a little hyped up with a live person and don’t open my eyes. When I play bots I tend to win most of the time in the range of 550-700. I tend to get nervous with live chess. I think I need to play a lot more games to get over that. Thanks for your input.

            • Hi Nelson. I am currently running a chess club at my sons school and next year the school wants to send some primary kids to an inter school tournament. I am seeking your advice as to what to focus on with these roughly 10 year old kids. perhaps you can draw on your experiences as a child attending your first tournament. I myself am only…

            • I like the stonewall and have been using it with varying degrees of success. If black does not castle, or instead castles queenside, what is the idea? Try to mirror the attacks on the opposing side? A king side rook lift by white doesn’t work, I suppose – Thoughts welcome.

              Many thanks,

            • When I play bots I win 4 games to 1 up to 1600 bots. When I play people on chess.com rated 1000 and I’m rated 1000 I lose more than I win. Today I played a 1000 rated player and lost. His accuracy was 1700 mine was 1350. Then I played another 1000 player and won his accuracy was 1700 mine was 1750. Are the bots that much off from real players or…

                • Yeah, I’ve found that the bots ratings don’t correlate well to real people. The bots also just play differently than real people.
