Bishop + pawn vs 4 pawns and I managed to lose it. My end game sucks even more than my openings and mid-game….. I’m having a bad day, might be time to have a break, that’s two in a row I’ve lost

Can anyone help me please?
Why is the review recommending my rook go to c7? Why would their queen not take my rook?

Oh man…..I’m still getting used to learning how to use the stockfish analysis. I can see what I missed now. Think that is called a decoy…..bit beyond my level at the moment but I can see how useful it is in that situation. What a missed opportunity! Cost me the game. 🙁

This is said game in progress. You can see that I have already deviated from the advised order due to my opponents moves. Any advice welcome. I guess the best thing to do is keep general objectives of strategy in mind and try to adapt?

Hey Robert, I know this was yesterday’s game, but just a simple observation that I see. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong or missing something, but I would not have pushed that pawn without building up support first. If white takes and you take back, what did you gain? Maybe go Kc6 first, then push d5 next move. Unless you were working…

Thanks Chris.

Hi Robert. I’m not ignoring your post, but you are significantly higher graded than me, so I’m not sure of the validity of anything that I would have to offer I’m afraid.

Hi Tom. I actually hired a chess coach some time ago and he has improved me. But now our meetings are erratic and he has me doing three different openings for white and black and I’m not sure how competent I am at any of them except for the Queen’s Gambit. I joined this platform because the idea of just two openings appealed to me as I…

Hi Robert, Nice to hear from you. I’m a driving instructor over in England. You mention how you are not sure how competent you are. That self-awareness is critical to outcomes in a learning environment if my experience of pupils trying to convince me how good they are at driving is anything to go by. You sound like you may well be already aware…

Hi. I just started playing chess again about a year ago after I retired. So I had about a thirty year lull! I have made some progress but I thought that this course was really a way forward and I think I was right.
I started trying to practice the Owen’s defense and am literally on the second game in this regard. I note that I have not seen…

Three very general suggestions:
1. Ensure you understand what the general “plan” is for any opening you use, so that you can keep that in mind strategically no matter what your opponent does
2. You still need to keep an eye out for any strange moves since they may create a threat. However, (see #3..)
3. If their moves are not part of your…- View 1 reply

Thought for a moment I was going to have a cheeky Tennyson on my hands, turned out to be a monumental fail in disguise

OMG! Just received this following message twice from chess.com, saying the game above and my previous were some kind of cheating: “We have detected that one or more of your recent opponents has violated our Fair Play Policy. As compensation for potentially unfair rating losses, we adjusted your following ratings:
Rapid: 1040 + 11 =>…

I started playing chess in March this year as a complete beginner, I was hooked and wanted to get better. I bought Levy Rozmans’ book and found he had split it into two chapters: Part one aimed at beginners from 0 – 800 elo and part two aimed at intermediate players between 800 – 1200.
This gave me my first target to hit 800 elo! Today I…

Wild game! Completely crazy! I had only 70% accuracy, my opponent only 60% accuracy and yet my opponent was completely dominating the game. I somehow managed to find 2 brilliant moves according to the review to, then scrape a perpetual check….completely nuts game, and I was extremely fortunate to get a point out of it.
