  • Don’t want to jinx this, but pre-course I was at 929, and I’ve just gone through the 1000 barrier and now at 1008. Hope I don’t live to regret putting this up, but actually quite chuffed that I’ve got through 1000.

6 days ago I broke through 1000 and tonight I have reached 1100.

    • Ive gone to a rating of 830 but now ive lost 9 out of 11 games. I’m doing my blunder checks and doing my best to follow the principles that Nelson teaches in this course.

I’m making mistakes and do not know what to do. Ive learned the Stonewall, French and Ownes.

What practically can i do tonturn arlund and get up to 1,000 rating

      Please help me!

        • Also. How do I put a game I’ve played in Stockfish

Plus in the review it tells me I made a mistake but not why it’s a mistake

        • Tim. I want to really, really, really thank you for taking the time for me. I appreciate you so much. I remember Nelson saying that you will go through a period when you will want to just quit but keep going. I am so glad he talked about that because that is where I am right now.. I noticed on the video you sent me that he says to start with…

        • PS I am playing a new game now and getting my pieces off the back row and my Knights connected like you said to do

        • Owen’s defence supremo!!!! Really pleased with this one, my opponent was 100 points over my grade

        • I want to go through the course a second time — which is possible but not as satisfying as it is when ticking off the progress through the course as one did the first time. Would it be possible to reset the course progress back to the beginning or would that be a bear to implement for some unintuitive reason? In any event, I enjoyed the…

        • Hi Nelson

very much enjoying course though 14 minutes into video on intermediate openings the streaming froze!!

also when going full screen I can hear your voice but not have any video display

thanks for looking into these glitches

          • Hey Max, first time hearing of this problem. Is this still happening? Have you tried closing other windows in your browser and possibly restarting your computer?

          • Okay guys, I’m super proud of this one.. I think I probably had a personal record for # of pins in a game! Crazy fun game…

          • I ordered this course for my 6-year-old son, whose rating is around 450 on Chess.com. How do we teach the kid to slow down and do blunder checking?

            • Tim

Make his goal to have as few blunders and mistakes by Game Review as possible.. and winning doesn’t count (but it will likely come along with it).

              • I’d just keep reminding him and eventually it’ll start to sink in. I’ve learned with our kids that if you keep reminding them they eventually get it, but it sometimes takes a while at that age.

              • In round 7 of the Texas tournament, why did that bishop move from your opponent Nelson necessitate sac’ing your Queen?

                • Tim

I wondered the same thing and did an analysis on it. If he unpins the queen by moving it, there’s too many discoveries and forks with the knights and bishops that you end up losing too much material (worse than queen).

                • Tom, losing the queen for 2 pieces is losing 9 and getting 6 points so really just like losing a piece (3 points). Of course that’s not ideal, but the other scenarios seemed even worse mainly to my king coming under fire. At least the way I did the game could go on and I had a fighting chance (although slim).

              • Hi everyone. At a relatively late age (45), I finally decided to take up chess. I am currently on chess.com and find myself losing more games than I can count! I am excited about learning and getting to the next level.

                • Tim

Congrats and best wishes to your progress! The great thing about chess is you don’t have to say, “well I was just unlucky that time”.. either you win (which is fun, of course), or you learn! (And often win & learn) You probably started at a higher rating than where you should be currently, but it will flatten out to people equally as good…
