@anariogmail-com Great game! As far as improving your opening and middlegame, I have to say I thought you played the opening and middle very well that game. For middlegame, just keep improving your tactics and positional concepts. I’m not sure if you’ve finished all of the middlegame modules yet, but even once those are done, you can continue…

This course has been fantastic! The blunder checklist has, by itself, raised my Chess.com rating by over 150 points! All 3 of my kids have a double-sided checklist based on this course. I am attaching them here in case they are helpful to anyone.

Excellent graphical aids. My engineering background shows when I make anything like that. It works, great! Someone complaining that is totally hideous, whatever – go find yourself an architect or graphic artist as appropriate 🙂

Playing Owens Defense, I thought taking with the knight was preferable over the bishop. Chess.com says otherwise. Thoughts?

Gary, maybe the idea is that if you take with the bishop you can force a trade of pieces and since you’re up a pawn that gets you closer to the endgame. Hi All,
I have joined recently and still going through modules but wanted to ask how’s people experience playing with Stonewall and Owen’s defence openings-
They are both playable in a variety of ways and I have found knowing a specific opening helps me feel as if things are more predictable. I win some and lose some but thats my inconsistency and no fault of the opening.

I absolutely love the stonewall. I highly recommend it. As for the Owen’s defense, I am struggling a lot. I can’t find my rhythm with it.

I am liking both openings and have been doing well (ok, not sucking too hard) with both. What I like about the Owen’s is that it seems to take a lot of players by surprise and they don’t know how to respond. Several times that bishop that you fianchetto on move two will sit there the entire game until it lasers across the board to be crucial… Read more

Finally broke into 1300 ELO territory after a long climb from 900 with a 94.5 accuracy and 2 brilliant moves in a row!!! I’ve scored a 95.6 accuracy once before with the Stonewall but this one was definitely the most satisfying! I got so close to losing on time which would’ve been devastating but managed to pull through with 5 seconds…

Yes thats annoying. I like to get Q-e1 then N-e5 and maybe pawn storm queen side as a feint. Usually dont like opening my king when opponents pieces are in that area. I noticed your eval bar dropped when you did N-e5 instead of continuing your attack on the bishop.

I think you handled it well in the opening and got into a fine position. The only change I would make would be to play c3 instead of a3 since they both stop Nb4 but with c3 you get added support on d4 and it let’s out your queen.
