  • Does anyone know what the chess.com ratings mean while playing a bot ?

I’m just under 500 and after checkmating a bot rated 850 the game review rated my part of the game at 1300? I don’t feel like im over 500…………………….yet

  • I don’t know what to think about this last game, I’m only around 450 I was paired with a 600 and lost. On the plus side even though I was on the defensive for the whole game. I didn’t make any blunders! I guess some small victory?

  • Great session as usual. Thanks much. Also appreciate your team getting back with quick responses to my questions.

  • Gotta say, this course is reinforcing my reasons for quitting years ago.

Module 4 kicked my butt and the quizzes, made me feel like I needed to be 1500 to solve them. I,m playing like total fertilizer and loosing on a record level.

  • 1st

two questions I would like to have addresses tonight. 1. If playing someone who makes random moves during the opening, should I still play the Stonewall or Owens, or, just go for center development, two pawns in the center, two knights and bishops out and a castle?

    2nd

can you demonstrate how to see beyond just the 1st best move to see…

    • Similar question. I’ve seen lots of moves that diverge from the ones they’re “likely” to do that were covered in the preferred openings. My question is not whether the openings are still good (I’m sure they are), but when to diverge versus doing what I often see in Nelson’s rating climb videos, just going for pawns in the center and…

      • I have the same question about recognizing when to “abandon” the standard opening moves when you notice the opponent make an unusual response in the early stages. As one type of example: they bring the queen out early so you would be inclined to chase it.

      • This relates to a question I had before about analyzing games with an engine (stockfish).

Nelson mentions looking at what the engine would have played. My question is if the engine gives the best move for BOTH sides, how is that helpful for me as there will be no resolution biased in MY favor?

Is the drill to see what the best move is for me…

      • Another question on analysis

While looking back on a game I noticed the analysis said my move was an inaccuracy which put me ( black ) at -5.56. The line under said the best move would have been -6.65. So I backed up, rep[aced the inaccuracy with the suggested move and the rating didn’t go to the -6.65 as expected but went to -5.33 which not…
