Is anyone else as inconsistent as me on puzzles ? SHEESH !!

That’s not too unusual, I don’t think. One thing with puzzles is to try not to guess (unless you’re just really stuck).. when I find the correct answer, 90% of the time I’m confident in it.. and if I’m not confident, it’s usually wrong.

I Beat Azeez!
Finally feel good about a game. Won against a bot rated at 1100 with checkmate ! My fated play was 2450 for what its worth. Main takeaways, no blunders.

Gotta say, very frustrated . Got every question on the part 9 test wrong. Felt totally unprepared for it. Would have been nice if an explanation forr the logic of those moves was provided. Or at least a reference to where in the course i could go to and see the materials.

This is so pathetic its funny.
No fault of Nelson, but i am a horrible chess player. I have recently mastered the art of snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory.
If im not totally blundering my pieces and playing like im taking bribes from my opponent, i do manage at times to mount a devastating attack where i totally decimate the other…

We all seem to go through streaks where we seem to make mistake after mistake (I certainly have), however you can certainly improve. Just concentrate on one or two items at a time. Based on your comments, concentrate on doing the blunder checks before every move. That sounds like it will solve a lot of your problems.
As far as stalemates…

That is very common.. I am climbing to 600. I still mistake Checkmate for Stalemate. It Is crazy how If you take Nelson’s advice and look at the LAST move your opponent makes and DON’T blunder. No wonder i have a hard time playing.
I had an absolute win against a 1000 rated bot……….and I stalemate. Stupid stupid stupid. You’d think I’m on the oppositions payroll !

I just did the same… was absolutely crushing a 1400 bot and then blunder blunder blunder and I struggled to get a stalemate. Some day I hope to get better and analyzing and calculating, but today is not that day.

Help. I can’t figure out how this puzzle is a win for white. As the knight eventually wins the rook it says Congrats you won ? However the pawn can tnen retake the knight. How is this an advantage for white.
Enquiring minds and one dummy want to know.

After 3. Nxd4 cxd4, the continuation is 4. Rb1 (winning the bishop on a6). From there White is a full rook ahead. There still would be plenty of time for mere mortals like me to blunder away the victory, but it is a strong advantage for White.

Nah, chess if for everyone and the more you play the easier it will be to spot patterns. At least that is what I’ve been told as it hasn’t happened to me yet… 😉

Wow. I’ve gone over multiple responses to this and if I follow it deep enough I see how that move works. Don’t know if I could ever see that in a game.
I suppose I should look at my progress more than my failures. On the plus side, I did see the fork and the pin immediately. I also am getting better at analyzing moves.

As Nelson said in the lessons, it is much easier to spot tactics in puzzles than when you are actually playing a game. Because in a puzzle, you always know that some tactic is hiding in the position somewhere.

I’ve seen complaints about cheaters on chess.com and other platforms. My suggestion is, since we are all here to learn and we know cheating isn’t going to help us improve, why don’t we have a section where we could post our chess.com user names and ELO so we can reach out to play each other ?

How is this a solution ?
The queen is repeating the same moves multiple times but the king can choose between 2 different moves.

I think you’re misunderstanding this rule. The position Q on d8 K on g7 is repeated 3 times. It doesn’t matter how many options has K got. This particular static position is repeated 3 times, that’s it – stalemate.

Confused. Why is it when i play live chess i can consistently lose to 400s’ , but when playing a bot i can routinely win against
850s’ ?

Bots are at least 400+ overrated, sometimes much more. For as good as engines are, the AI isn’t very good at making human-type mistakes in their bots.

Oh man, this game really wore me out. I did EVERYTHING wrong, bad moves , 4 blunders and still won. I was on the ropes with nowhere to go and decided to attack and hope for the opponent to blunder. He did. My rated play was 100. What a joke. It seems like I can’t get out of the openings…

I hate when I win on slop too. I just take the win because I can’t give it back but I don’t have to like it. Lately I’ve won a few but not with brilliant moves.

I’m thinking that for those climbing the rating ladder , never give up . I had a totally loosing position but what I lack in skill I compensate with stubbornness. There is no way I should have won.
