Guess what I missed 😅 got excited and did an oops
Nelson be like “how many times do I have to tell you how to do a smothered mate?????”

While analyzing Nelson’s recent stream, it was white to play and he said he couldn’t stop R-d3 after his next move. Wouldn’t Q-g2 allow white to defend from there with R-f3 to block a check? I’m probably not seeing something. Idk.

Looks like after Qg2, black could play Qxc3+ which forks the rook at a1. I guess white could save the rook with Be3, but then that loses the bishop.

Surprisingly this position is survivable. While the engine says black is far better, its not a rapid checkmate. This after I misplayed my stonewall opening. While I won after Nd2 then threatening queen with Be5, engine said Nd2 was not correct so I went through the best moves.

Here is another time I was in a strong position thanks to stonewall opening but did not see the forced mate. 😃 Luckily I still won after black blundered but it was much later.

Just a glance, I’d play Qh5. With that much force around a a bare king, there has to be a mate.
