In lesson 2.4 around 7:30 mark, why is it better to play Qd5 first instead of sacrificing the bishop and them playing Qd5? When you sacrifice you get an extra pawn AND the king can’t castle so to me that seems like the better move.

      • Because Qd5 you simply win a free piece. So would you rather have 1 pawn and your opponent can’t castle or a free piece? Generally the free piece is better.

        • Hello Nelson, since Qd5 is not check, black has the in-between move Bxf2+. With this move, white lose castling and a pawn, gaining a black piece. What´s your opinion about this alternative?

          • Yeah that might be black’s best try, but losing a piece still puts black at a big disadvantage. Also, since taking the pawn on f2 opens the f file, white might be able to make use of that to attack later with Rf1.
