One of the important lessons Nelson reminds us to do is to see what has changed when your opponent makes a move. I neglected to do that in this game when my opponent, playing black, moved his bishop to g5 on move #26. I was so focused on mating him, that I missed that his rook was protecting the mating square after he moved the bishop and he took my queen when I thought I had mate.
I was so disgusted with myself, I almost resigned. Glad I didn’t because I think I still have a chance.
