Ive gone to a rating of 830 but now ive lost 9 out of 11 games. I’m doing my blunder checks and doing my best to follow the principles that Nelson teaches in this course.

I’m making mistakes and do not know what to do. Ive learned the Stonewall, French and Ownes.

What practically can i do tonturn arlund and get up to 1,000 rating

      Please help me!

      Thomas

@twa232000yahoo-com The good thing is since you seem to be playing Daily a lot, time pressure is not a factor. So you should be able to blunder check every time (which also doesn’t seem to be a major issue.. it’s more positional and tactical issues as opposed to straight up blundering pieces).

A few suggestions I would have is:
            – Stick to opening principles.. it looks like you start with part of an opening but then adjust to your opponent unnecessarily (they push a pawn to create tension, but you seem to want to relieve the tension when you don’t need to.. finish your opening and development instead, unless it truly threatens the goals of the opening)
            – Move pawns much less in the opening (and in general).. they can never go backward, so you’re creating weaknesses in your position most times that you do that. Only move them to allow pieces out to start, or as part of the specific opening like Stonewall.
            – “Over protect” your pieces. When you move a piece, look at what else can protect it (especially pawns). E.g. a bishop and pawn can protect each other very well.. outposts for knights, connected rooks.. this minimizes the possibility that a tactic will win your piece
            – I see you’ve done puzzles in spurts.. keep working on that steadily.. consider it like a warmup to exercising (the game), since it will create pattern recognition helping you to find tactics.

          • Also. How do I put a game I’ve played in Stockfish

Plus in the review it tells me I made a mistake but not why it’s a mistake

          • Tim. I want to really, really, really thank you for taking the time for me. I appreciate you so much. I remember Nelson saying that you will go through a period when you will want to just quit but keep going. I am so glad he talked about that because that is where I am right now.. I noticed on the video you sent me that he says to start with an e4 opening. In the course he recommendes Stonewall. So, I am going to stay with that and learn it so, so well so I know it in my sleep. Then later I may learn another one. Again, that you. If you do not mind I will report back to you in a month to let you know if I am improving. Again, THANK YOU !

My pleasure! It’s fun helping others. Good idea on the Stonewall, and you can learn the Owen’s Defense as well for black, as well. Since you play half of games as each color, it’s good to learn them both and keep growing. Eventually you’ll indeed know it in your sleep, and you can take some notes on more rare lines and what to do in those situations (though you should not look at those notes during play as that’s cheating IMO.. just review every so often). The more you play and review the more you’ll improve. Don’t forget puzzles too!

            • PS I am playing a new game now and getting my pieces off the back row and my Knights connected like you said to do
