Jerry G posted an update
My rating has dropped from about 700 to 400 after following the Blunder check list Nelson provided. Is there any explanation for this anyone can think of? I know he said it gets worse before It gets better… Is this what he meant ? Any help or Input would be greatly appreciated.

Could be a number of things.
1. When learning something new it is common to go backwards for a while because you’re thinking about a lot more than before and it takes a while to sort it all out.
2. How did you determine initially 700?
Are you using the same criteria?
Could it be you have been playing cheaters?
There is no way having more knowledge will hurt you. It will eventually kick in and you will improve.
I’ve been very frustrated with my progress but in reality I am winning more games than before. Don’t really know my rating as my ego can’t take being beaten by real people. So I play bots. I’m focusing on good play, less blunders and trying to keep my accuracy rate near 90% . When I started I was being beaten by 400 rated bots. Now I’m routinely holding my own with 1000. Think my average accuracy is around 75% , on occasion I’ve hit 91. When they beat me I rant about the D×%€ robots taking over the earth ! I don’t get too discouraged as I know I can either unplug them or pull out their batteries. Who wins now?
Stupid robot.

@nightflyerjoeyahoo-com I think the answer Is your first response. This Is a lot more to look over than before. Chess.com had me at 700. well 660. I am now slowly climbing back up to 500. I think It’s a new way to approach things and I am over defending and playing too passively …. I really appreciate the response. Keep me updated on your progress as I will too. TY again.

My progress? You’ll like this one. I was playing a 1000 rated not. Doing pretty well, up 7 points mid game. Then it hung a knight that I could take with my queen. Checked all across the board and yup, The queen was safe , all my other pieces were safe so I took it. It’s queen flew all the way diagonally across the board to checkmate my trapped king. Had nothing to do with knowledge or the course. Just got a little lazy and careless. Oh well, at least the bot won’t go and gloat over my stupidity to its other bot friends ! In the meantime I’m plotting its unplugging.
Stupid robot

@nightflyerjoeyahoo-com Classic. I am slowly climbing past 500. It feels good after a good Blunder list check. I am not as reckless and I am sure Myself and my other 650 elo counterparts were blundering but didn’t see it. I might play a Bot. I was playing one at 800 and could win most of the time. The Bot would make Obvious mistakes for me lol.. People NOT so much. I think at my tender ELO Luck has a lot to do with my games… Onward we go.

Don’t look a gift blunder in the mouth
( or something like that ).
They happen all the time and our ability to spot them and take advantage of them can make all the difference.
Some games I’ve lost ( to people ) prove that point. In analyzing those games afterwards I’ve noticed that the other person blundered and unfortunately I didn’t see it at the time. I wonder how many games I’ve lost would have been wins if only I caught those blunders

Just came across something that may help . If you haven’t visited module 10 I suggest listening too what Nelson says in 10:1. Makes sense to me
