I wish I better understood a couple of technical things, but I’ll start with this simple one. I have usually played bots to practice, but I doubt they’re necessarily realistic. When I start a “real” game on chess.com I tend to get put with people whose ratings are much higher than mine. Is there any way to play a “normal” game of chess (one – three day moves) with someone closer to my beginner rating? The random partnerings have been brutally imbalanced. I like playing the longer games because I play better when I have time to think.

Yes, when you go to start a game just below the big green “Play” button will be a little “Custom” drop-down. If you click on that you will be able to select how much above/below your rating your opponent will be. I have mine set to -400 and +100.
