Loving the course, im very new to chess (started August this year). Have been able to go from 200 to 450 rapid and to 700 daily since watching Nelsons rating climbs and learning so much more in the course.
Was just on a winnings streak in rapid games usually getting 80% accuracy so confidence at all time high. Then i all but lose in this game was happy i managed to force stalemate. Op played weird opening getting all their pawns on 6th rank with out developing. Granted i missed many moves and blundered a bit and I know end games are where i need to focus on.
Im embarrassed to share this but hoping for advice for beginners when they come across things outside their confort zone. I was winning at one point but was so lost and confused the whole game.

Yeah, those kind of pawn push openings can throw you off. When that happens, I like to really focus on good opening principles. For example, on move 7, you started pushing your central pawns and moved your knight a 2nd time. I think you could have just kept developing.
A couple other things I noticed. You were down a piece most of the game, so you probably want to try to avoid trading pieces. Also, for a 30 minute game, it seemed like you played pretty fast. Maybe slowing down a little would help? Nice job getting the draw there!

@keithfeldtgmail-com thanks Keith appreciate the comment. I think I tried too hard to bust through the pawns instead of relaxing and thinking through each move.

That was a bizarre opening for Black! After developing my pieces I would have taken some time and picked apart all of Black’s weak pawns. That was a target rich environment.
As Keith F mentioned, take your time. It was a 30 minute game and you still had +18 minutes on the clock at the end. I think if you would have take more time you would have seen some of the moves and opportunities that you missed.
Good job avoiding a checkmate at the end though.1-
@keithsudermangmail-com cheers mate. Was afraid to share this one so thanks for the kind criticism, it’s a good community here

@mitchhowzitgrowing-com-au It is a great community here! People like to post their victories, but I have always found it more constructive to talk about my defeats. This might even be a good game for the next group call!

@JamesQMurphy thanks heaps for feedback. Was feeling pretty bad about myself but taking it as a learning experience into future games. Will make add time management onto my check list.
