I played a USCF tournament yesterday and my final game of the day went a long 47 moves, where I resigned. I brought home 2nd place.
Review of the loss tells me that there are some fundamental misunderstandings that I have about chess positions.
I’ve annotated the game in the hopes that I could get some help.

I checked very quickly and 2 things jumped out at me. 1) When you decided against it, I would have traded queens. One pawn ahead is all it takes to win an endgame. If you managed to trade rooks and knights, that extra pawn would absolutely have been enough for you to win. Also, your pawn structure was better and white had doubled pawns, so you might have had a situation where you had 2 passed pawns. 2) When you played Ng4 and then h5 to defend the knight, that’s almost always going to be the wrong plan. You should NEVER be moving your pawns forward in front of the king, especially when your opponent’s queen is close by. Pawns can never go back so those weaknesses are permanent. Other than that some mistakes towards the end really hurt too. But overall the opening was very well played! Hope that helps!

@ChessVibes I went back and looked at the Queen trade. I think I miscounted for some reason and thought we were materially even. I misevaluated his doubled pawns for an advantage because I’d already traded my dark-squared bishop.
Yes, I heard your voice in my head when I decided to push h5 and didn’t consider my g6 square as weak and I didn’t see any advantage going back to Nf6 and then Ne4 (when I earlier considered that idea), but stockfish says Ne4 is where it belongs. In retrospect, I see the value it would have had supporting my rooks on the 2nd rank and pressuring g3 for a potential sacrifice.
Better plans next time, I guess…
Thank you for the evaluation!
