Been at this course for about two months now. I haven’t forged ahead with it but am just taking my time. My rating at the start of the course was 893 and now it is 908. This doesn’t sound very good but in that time my rating dropped to 854, so I’m pulling back now.

I feel I’m winning more games but it’s through blunders by my opponent as my accuracy is only around 70%, so I’m missing a lot of stuff. Still, if I’m making fewer blunders of my own, that can only be a good thing.

I still have some way to go in the course as I’m only on Module 5 so I’m hopeful of reaching 1000 in a few weeks; that would be an achievement for me. I’ve been 1200 before but that’s because Chess.com started me at that level and I plummeted rapidly and immediately down to a low of 750.

      Onward and upward.

      • Keep at it Martin. I found module 7 extremely good and have just re watched the module today to brush up on it. It covers the basic ideas around the middle game (other than tactics). Try and plough through the lessons as you’ll have a grasp of all the ideas in the course and then rewatch ones as you struggled with or are relevant to faults found in your game reviews.

By the way, spotting your opponents blunders is superb and how most of us win games. From what I’ve seen in higher rated games the only difference is that the opponents errors are smaller and harder to spot but they are still their errors and are used to win the game. Pat yourself on the back for spotting them, you are doing the right thing.
