As a total aside , can anyone think of another game ( apart from chess ) where the game’s ultimate goal is never arrived at ? In chess the aim is to capture your opponent’s king ( checkmate being forced capture next move ) . The king though is never physically captured !! I can’t 😵💫

Well technically the goal is to corner the king, take away all the squares with an attack. You only capture other pieces.

@PARZ1V3L think the goal is to capture the king , once it’s gone , you’ve lost ! That’s why you are not allowed to blunder the king ie , move into check , must deal with a check ( discovered check ) etc .

It is simply assumed the king will be captured in a checkmate. I’m used to the tradition that the loser tips the king over to signify it’s “death” though now with online we just get the hash mark. But there’s no reason to say the king is not captured, we just save some time.
If all but one person folds in poker, the game ends even if the hand is incomplete because the conclusion is inevitable.

@CJValkyrie once the king is taken , you’ve lost & yes I do remember knocking the king over ! Even seen ( many moons ago ) the king being handed to the opponent 🤣 !
Don’t know a lot about poker , but I believe the object is to win the “pot” , so if everyone folds but one , the pot will still have been won ?
