1500! This was a fascinating chart you showed about people at different levels on Chess.com. How does it compare to Lichess? I like Lichess. One of the reasons is that you can converse with the opponent. Also, you can play in Zen (non-rated) mode. What do you think about Zen mode? On Lichess, I usually play against players at the 1400-1500 level. Also. I heard that there is less cheating on Lichess.

I am looking forward to this course. As you mentioned, I am the king of stuck!

      • I found this chart for lichess: https://lichess.org/stat/rating/distribution/rapid

It appears that the rating distribution is much higher on lichess which lines up with my experience as well. I believe the chess.com ratings are much closer to what you can expect if you go to OTB (over-the-board) tournaments and get an official rating. This is also why if you look at a 1000 ELO game on chess.com it will probably be similar to a 1400-1500 ELO game on lichess. I think this disparity goes away to some extent at the higher rating levels (2400+) but anything under like 1800 is skewed to a much higher rating on lichess than ches.com

        • Agreed. My Lichess ratings are significantly higher than on Chess.com, and I play both.

        • Thank you for your kind and detailed response. The chart is handy, and I discovered a “hidden”place on Lichess I did not know about!

I believe the difference is that chess.com starts your rating at 1000 (not sure if that is still the case?) and Lichess at 1500. Also, the Lichess has a temporary rating. It is followed by a ? For example, 1486? On Lichess, you get an accurate rating after having played about 50 rated games. Beware of the player rated 1500? It could be a new player with less than ten games on Lichess or someone who has only played non-rated (Zen) games and might have played thousands of games and is possibly at 1800 ELO or more!

Players on Lichess are usually very friendly, and I have had great and fun conversations in the “chat” with players of all ages worldwide!

          • Just an fyi you can play unrated games at chess.com (I do so with my friends that don’t play).
