Analysis question
I’ll try again…. Hi everyone, I’m going through the review of this game and am struggling with the analysis of the mid-game….. my move 17 being marked as highly suspect which I understand. Why is my move 19 not being marked up as a blunder? Any assistance would be appreciated.

It looks like by black going Qg6 you set yourself up for a nice pin/fork with Bd3. They are threatening two moves: 1) Ke7 check with a discovered attack with the bishop on your queen and 2) threatening to take your knight on c2 because it’s trapped. You negate all of this by not stepping into that pin/fork by going Qf6.

Tough spot no doubt. I’ve found really focusing on calculation and really taking my time has lead to improving my chess the most. At the end of the day what the engine is doing is just calculation, but at a very deep level. So we as humans might as well get as good as possible at it.

Ha! I thought of that same exact series of moves thinking it would win the pawn, at move 13. Then you do the same thing a few moves later.. both of us gave up M1 by not calculating far enough!

Just lost a game to a grade 663, who I had captured his Queen with a fork. Very expensive loss….. dropped my grade by about 50. *ouch* Being a queen down, I wasn’t really expecting him to still be looking for a mate – expensive lesson to learn!

Happens to the best of us. I try not to focus on ELO so much as I do learning. If I learned something from the game it’s a win in my book. If I learned something from a loss then it’s really going to stick!

After 11. Qxe4 you’re down material, so don’t trade queens. You should complicate the position. In that case I would’ve Bb5+, they likely would’ve blocked with c6 (to avoid losing castling rights), but then you have them with Re1!
I’m not sure why they abandoned the game with equal material..

I strongly disagree. Resign immediately and move on to the next game. It is not worth it to defend and then still lose on time. At one point 60% of my losses where on time. What a waste of effort. If the tricked you and won a piece early it is very unlikely that you will ever recover. Quit and quit wasting time.

I’m enjoying the chess.com bots lately. Julia 1800 is good at shutting down the stonewall with dutch or french looking defenses and pawn storms on my castled king. This photo is just one of the examples of its fun openings. My goal is play accurately despite losing and use some of the ideas behind the stonewall, when blacks position allows.

Just broke 1100 after several trips between 850 and 1000. This game was actually relatively free of errors for me until I missed and turned a mate in 1 into a mate in 7. Funny how that adrenaline does. Good game to my opponent 👍🏼

Great playing the whole way through! Nice forks, pressure without a lot of unnecessary risk (I probably would’ve castled a bit sooner). The ending doesn’t matter if it’s M1 or M7.. those open positions aren’t as easy to find M1 anyway.
