I think you handled it pretty well except on moves 18 and 19. I would have pushed the c pawn to defend against the light squared bishop. You were still holding on until you got greedy for pawns on moves 25 and 26. Your opponent had a forced smothered mate in 5 and missed it! Looks like you handled the opening pretty well, although around move 10 I would have looked for opportunities to play Re1 to take advantage of his king still being in the center. For example, instead of dxe5, I think Re1 would have been a great move and then recapture with the rook.

Just broke 1150, up from 850 to start. In addition to B1500, watching the stonewall speedruns on chessbrah (youtube) has been extremely helpful.

I agree. Would love some tips on how to analyze my games but don’t know if game review is the best way! Showing us how to use analysis would be helpful!

Charles, Game Review is the lazy and fast way. It usually does a pretty good job of highlighting the big mistakes and misses. Analysis is if you want to dig into it yourself. Sometimes you’ll notice or catch things that Game review missed, but it generally takes longer and a bit more effort is required. I think if you’re below 1200 I’d stick…

Got stuck here with Owen’s defense. My rooks were useless. Even though I was ahead most of the game, at the end I felt like I was doing well to get a draw.

So if anyone is interested in playing Stonewall as black, know that it’s totally playable against 1. d4. I’ve used it exclusively in my recent rating climb up to 1390. (I use Scandinavian Modern Variation vs 1. e4)

It is a bit boring but if you think through the moves it is a lot easier that trying to consistently set up Stonewall against others. I learned from it. (I like Nelson’s analysis better.)

I’ve watched all 20 hours of Aman’s speedrun and it gave me a much deeper understanding. Nelson’s analysis is great, but 20 hours of explained games just grants a broader understanding.
I view them as complimentary

MY BEST TACTICAL GAME YET!!!! I ACTUALLY COULDNT BELIEVE I WON THIS GAME AFTER LOSING MY QUEEN AFTER 7 MOVES.

Really nice recovery. Could tell you were executing a plan.
Really liked Kf2 to stop the queen invasion. You did miss a nice queen/rook fork right after that, but overall you seemed to be using discovered attacks well (especially the early one with the pawn advance that attacked both the knight and rook)

Appreciate that Ryan! I saw the potential Queen Rook fork but the f2 pawn was sniping the e3 square. Still can’t believe the overall recovery. I gotta stay away from those discovered attacks!!! 😅
