Unfortunately I had some urgent business come up that essentially took me offline for two months. I’m now back in the game and I’ve just about completed all the modules; and ready to go back and repeat a number of them. I think watching the “How to avoid Blunders” will be a daily ritual.
However, during the last group call Nelson mentioned…

He hasn’t yet. My guess is that it will go after the AverageJoe climb (currently about 1750). He has been spending most of his time getting frustrated with stream snipers and cheaters online. (I kid… I kid…. mostly 🙂 )

I just watched it too and it’s helping. Went to a 15/10 after several hundred 10 minute games. Definitely felt a LOT better and no time pressure.
Personally haven’t heard anything more about climbing with the two openings.

Re: Stonewall: if I open with d4 and they play c5, should I take or stick to the opening and let them take? Or do I push pawn to d5?
-
It depends on what you are comfortable with. d5 is the better move by the engine, but you the playing a more open Benoni Structure instead of a more closed off Stonewall. I prefer the positions after dxC5 (…. e6 3. Nc3 BxC5 4. Ne4 Be7, Nd6+ Bxd6, Qxd6). In that position you have the bishop pair, active queen that can’t be tempo’d easily…

I always take the c5 pawn and let them take back later so I don’t lose a tempo.

Suggestion
I’ve seen complaints about cheaters on chess.com and other platforms. My suggestion is, since we are all here to learn and we know cheating isn’t going to help us improve, why don’t we have a section where we could post our chess.com user names and ELO so we can reach out to play each other ?

One thing I’m thinking of , and not sure if it will work, is to list ourselves as friends on a chess.com site that we all have access to. That way we could play each other the same way we play strangers ?
I’m not real slick with the in and outs of chess.com so it would take someone more familiar with their platform to set it up. Is this…

Mine is darkqloud. Thinking we have to get a separate chess.com account that we can all log into. Think it could be free account?

How about we arrange a Club page? From there we can set up tournaments.
I set one up for us, so please join if you’re interested. Actually, I’ve never done it before, but we can figure out the fine details as we go along.

@ChessVibes Have you considered running a Tournament for your Breaking 1500 students? It might be fun for the community to get games against each other. It might make for some interesting content (having you break down some of the games). Otherwise, thanks for the courses. I’m re-watching the ‘How not to Blunder’ course now. It apparently… Read more

I think that would be a great idea, and the winner gets to play against Nelson! Or set up a chess ladder for the students with Nelson in the top slot, but he can only be challenged once per week (or some other time limit).

Very disappointed, even though I’m still going to go through the coarse I feel like I got scammed. Watching Nelson on youtube I was feeling here a standup guy. Nothing I watched said you’re cutting out live communication. As a 69 year old man I feel betrayed.

I’m also surprised that there isn’t anything beyond prerecorded videos 🙂

Go through the course materials. Post on here (other than taking shots at Nelson) and you’ll likely get some activity. It was originally opened with limited availability. I believe he did that twice and now it is open to everyone. It is less active in here now just because most of the people have already gone through all of the material and…

Nate, I posted on here because there no way to post directly to Nelson. I have not seen anything in all the utube videos of his that states there will be no more live activity. I have also tried to contact his support and as of now still haven’t received a response.

Thanks for responding, I wasn’t really thinking I couldn’t do this. I was just expecting some quality time with a chess pro.

Whaf is the app you use for playing online games.

Most people use Chess.com or lichess.org . Nelson uses Chess.com in his YT video channel streams and videos. I don’t know what system he used for the Breaking 1500 course.

Puzzle 8.2
How is this a solution ?
The queen is repeating the same moves multiple times but the king can choose between 2 different moves.
-
I think you’re misunderstanding this rule. The position Q on d8 K on g7 is repeated 3 times. It doesn’t matter how many options has K got. This particular static position is repeated 3 times, that’s it – stalemate.

Thank you . Appreciate the feedback

I just joined a week ago, I haven’t seen any live activity, or gotten a e-mail for any live activity.
Am I missing something here?
Maybe I was mislead to believe there was more to this than there is.
Please inform me of what I’m missing and how to get more involved.

When I signed up I was expecting a video course, which is what I got. I , like others had hoped for a little more live feedback/ interaction from Nelson but can’t complain as the course is delivering excellent content. The community is pretty much what we make of it. The more we contribute, the more we get out of it.

Maybe, but what community?
