11 for 12 as white using the Stonewall!

      Hello All!

I’m taking a moment to comment on how well I like the course.

I first “learned” chess as a kid; you know, how the pieces move, the rules, etc., but I never learned about strategy, openings, tactics, none of that. As an adult, the only thing I had was a vague understanding of trying to control the center – not terribly helpful after about move 4. Until about 6 months ago, I played chess maybe 3 times in the previous 30 years.

On June 1 of this year, my Chess.com Rapid rating was 711, which was after having the chance to play some 20 or more rated games. Due to my schedule, I only get the chance to play only about 5 or so Rapid games / week, and I try to watch some video and do maybe 10 tactics puzzles.

Learning and deploying the Stonewall has been an amazing success so far. Since learning it through this course, I have gone 11 out of 12 as white. This has made a big difference in my game.

The Stonewall opening, along with lessons on strategy and tactics, has brought me to 800 ELO, which feels like a big accomplishment, considering. (8 months ago, I didn’t even know what ELO was, except as an acronym for a progressive rock band from the 1970s.)

Thanks much, Nelson, for all the insights and great lessons.

      Cheers All!

Below, my latest as white against another 800+ opponent. What I like about the Stonewall so far is that you can build a solid defense and launch attacks while maintaining the integrity of your defense. You also can tie-up your opponents very well, making it difficult for them to maneuver, or find strong attacking lines.
