Hey Nelson, The course has already helped my rating considerably. (nearly 100 points)
I have a question that is a little off the wall. Do you have any suggestions for dealing with anxiety? I play at a rating between 1000 and 1200 with some games going higher or lower, but that is vs. the computer. However, vs a living opponent I get extremely anxious. So anxious that I can’t think clearly and have even mouse slipped because I was shaking so hard. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe black out the rest of the screen other than the chess board, having someone else start the game randomly selecting a chess bot or matching with a real person. You won’t know until after the game who/what you played and just focus on the chess.

This is pretty tough to deal with, but take some time to think about what’s at stake if you lose. A lot of times, people put it all on the line in terms of their sense of self worth. Maybe with the help of a therapist you could drill down and examine what it really means to you, and try to work on challenging the thoughts and values that make losing feel like a really big deal. Another thing that might help is to try thinking about a game as an opportunity to analyze and learn, rather than placing so much value on the result (win or lose).

Man…this resonates with me. Thank you.
Thinking about the game as a way to analyze and learn is where I need to get to. I put way too much on winning.

As like you care to much about winning just get it in your head if you win all good if you lose you can use it a lesson and learn off analyze also it might help turn off showing there rating so when I play a opponent I only see there name I can’t see there rating to the game over
