Great example of something that came up in one of the Owens videos, with white defending the e4 pawn with the f3 pawn, and my neglecting to pin the knight with my bishop in favor of developing my knight first. So white pushes the e pawn, attacking my knight, and since I can’t actually jump in to e4 anymore (since the f pawn is now defending it),…

Similar question. I’ve seen lots of moves that diverge from the ones they’re “likely” to do that were covered in the preferred openings. My question is not whether the openings are still good (I’m sure they are), but when to diverge versus doing what I often see in Nelson’s rating climb videos, just going for pawns in the center and…

You may cover this in the course (apologies if I haven’t gotten to it yet), but any tips on practicing with bots? I usually play daily games (don’t seem to have time dedicated to a timed one, daily lets you play as fast or slow as you need), which is fine but can be slow for practicing if the opponent takes their time.

Thanks Roberto. Owens reply makes sense. For the stonewall, it’s not a free pawn as the knight would just take back. I could be using the time to develop, and if they want to trade they can… maybe they’re both ok.

In the Owens (which is super fun), any tips for if white puts their knight on d2 instead of c3? Pinning with the bishop no longer works because the pawn can block.

In the Stonewall, any tips for if black gets crazy and immediately attacks with e5? I ended up pushing both pawns, which was okay, but…
