After 11. Qxe4 you’re down material, so don’t trade queens. You should complicate the position. In that case I would’ve Bb5+, they likely would’ve blocked with c6 (to avoid losing castling rights), but then you have them with Re1!

Just stick to longer formats then. Shorter time controls are really intended for once you have the pattern recognition already established. Once you’re anticipating your opponent, not blundering much, and know your openings, not running out of time, gradually lower the time control.

At that level, you’re almost certainly blundering full pieces, or missing capture of your opponent’s blundered pieces. If you can’t do both those checks every move, use a longer time control. Beyond that, follow Nelson’s principles in this course.

I checked out a few of your games. My suggestion is to follow all of Nelson’s principles. You don’t need the Stonewall/Owen’s openings necessarily, but you’re not castling, using the queen far too much, etc. Also, before playing each move, think about what you would play if you were them. If that takes too long, go to 15 or 30 minute…

Faster time controls just teaches me to rush and blunder.. developing bad habits to not check “what changed in the position” so I don’t carry it over to longer games.. totally not worth it, IMO (if you want to get better).

I’ve found the chess.com bots play about 300-400 less than their supposed rating, so I tried out stonewall against an 1800-1900 bot and it always delays castling which makes it much more challenging.. really if they don’t give you the king side you’re just jammed up with a rook and bishop that are out of the game.. not really liking the opening thus far.

Your issues aren’t with the Stonewall opening, it’s with blunder checking each piece, counting attackers vs defenders, and thinking of the opponent’s most likely move after what you’re considering playing. That queen tactic is common, so you could’ve noticed it would’ve taken the pawn with check, and figured out what to do next. You can’t…
