I’m rated around 800, and playing opponents in the 650-850 range. They aren’t blundering. My last 4 or 5 games my opponents have had 80% accuracy, many best moves found, and zero blunders. The engine is rating their performances in the 1200-1500 range. Then I’ll get low on time (I haven’t gotten quick at blunder checking yet), move too quickly and lose. I think I’ve dropped 60 points today 🙁 Is anyone else at this rating range experiencing anything similar?

OMG! I just got on to make a similar comment. I was slowly climbing, climbing, climbing, and now I feel like I’m losing eight out of ten games the past week to players that aren’t making any mistakes. I was wondering if playing on weekends is harder than through the week for some reason? Do more good players hop on for the weekend (or is it just because I’m watching football while I play)? I’ve lost almost 100 points over the past 3 days.

It’s weird. Until recently I played purely to pass the time when Netflix is rubbish, but I’ve decided I want to get better. In the “Netflix distraction” games I would do game reviews and realise my opponent had hung pieces or given me a fork or I’d missed a checkmate. Now I’m trying to improve it’s like these same players have suddenly become blunder free masters!!

Latest game. Another “700” who just got 93% accuracy and no blunders!! What is going on?

New game. Opponent 722. 89.2% accuracy. 0 blunders. How is it possible to improve against these opponents?

I feel your frustration. It does seem like sometimes you run into a string of better players. That said, usually the mistakes are there, but maybe they’re not as obvious as hang-a-piece-in-one-move. Could you post one of these games?

@keithfeldtgmail-com I’ll attempt to post one later. But I’m going off chess.com analysis which isn’t finding any blunders and very few mistakes.

Here is a game from today. I definitely made a few mistakes, but it is the quality of play from a 600 rated opponent that is questionable.

Im new to the chess.com world . It is amazing that computers have such influence on the game. One concern of mine is the ability to cheat . Is there anyway to know if cheating takes place ?
89-93 % accuracy for 700 ELO rated players ?
Maybe they are all Breaking 1500 members and just great players ??? Hope so. -
I had a chance to look through your game this afternoon. I like going through my games using the “self-evaluation” tool rather than game review. To me, seeing the evaluation bar and the top couple moves is more useful than seeing the different moves categorized. I also feel like the “rating” of the game can be all over the place.
So, I think you’re right that your opponent didn’t really make any big mistakes. But, he also missed a lot of good moves that could have won him the game quite a bit faster. I checked his profile, and he has a reasonable mix of wins and losses, so I think he probably wasn’t cheating.
I think some of what happened in that game is that you got in trouble early when your king got stuck in the middle, and so it was relatively easy for your opponent to find moves to keep the pressure on you after that. I’ve definitely had that happen to me. I thought it started going wrong for you on move 5 when you played 5. …d5 instead of developing your knight or dark bishop. And then taking the pawn with the bishop on move 6. It led to the center getting opened up before you were ready. My chess improved quite a bit when I started really focusing on following opening principles. In particular, developing pieces instead of moving pawns, and not moving a piece more than once in the opening. -
Is it possible that meeting more experienced players that have low ELO can be related to how people that play lot of games in single week can rank up in https://www.chess.com/leagues ? When I started this course I was in much lower league as I did not play many games…
