I hate chess. Nothing helps and I am not smart enough to figure out what I am doing wrong. It is beyond frustrating. I got up to 1207 and now 912. I have been able to have a net win streak in a month. Why does chess.com not tell you WHY some dumb random move is the best move?! Has anyone had any experience with Decode Chess AI?

I was so excited to be a part of Breaking 1500, but honestly it hasn’t helped. The Stonewall and Owens just feel like I am being slowly choked to death most of time. I wish there was more variations in the course because knowing when to deviate would be helpful. Also the opponents are way more stronger then what the course makes them out to be.

Sorry I know I am word vomiting all over the readers at this point, but I am so disgusted with this game at this point I can no longer hold it in. It is just not fun anymore.

      • Forgetting about the rating and sticking with opening principles has helped me the most. Then CCT checks captures threats. None of these available then which piece needs improvement? Before any of this ask what was opponents piece guarding before he moved it? Reviewing games. Nelson has played thousands of games so just thinking in his voice does not work. Playing and analysis of thousands of games will work. Getting frustrated and flinging pieces around like i sometimes do doesn’t work either it just loses 10 in a row😁 HANG IN THERE!!!

        • @armyguy63bgmail-com Thank you for the encouragement. My major problem is tilting hardcore. It usually starts with making a dumb mistake in game when I am tired. I tell myself the next game will be better, but the is another sub optimal outcome and bam the next thing I know another 100 rating points are down the drain.

I took a break for a few days and some of GM Avo emails from ChessMood the past few days have helped me reframe my mindset. I only played one game tonight because it was beautiful for my play level and I didn’t want to sour such a strong win by playing another game.

By the way, I was a Light Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic (63B) from 98-01. They have since deleted that MOS, but for those of us who remember Relaxing at Fort Jackson, 40 Rounds Drill Sargent…

          • @louvoodooyahoo-com i do that too-stop playing to keep from losing my rating. It’s hard to concentrate. Slowly realizing it takes time to train your brain.
My IET was all at Dix in 83. Was LWV/power generation mechanic back then. Not long after they made 52D gen mech separate. Hated when they changed mos to 91. Retired as a 91Z5H2S aka 91 know-it-all haha. Didn’t really know squat but how to research.

        • I am sure the Army changed a lot since we were in. I still remember them telling us that racism doesn’t exist, we are all green. Thanks for being a brother in arms during an hour of need. Hopefully some day we can play online, we need atleast one game of Stonewall vs Owens right?@

          • Louis, it sounds like you might be a little tilted. It happens to me from time to time as well. And when it does, I generally find myself losing a lot of points and just feeling very frustrated in general. I usually need to step away for a few days and don’t think about chess at all for a bit. Usually then when I come back I’m fresh and magically playing better than normal.

            • @ChessVibes 100% tilted I completely agree. The issue is that I don’t tend to have the magic rebound after taking a break.

I love finding tactics and usually find a way to be up material by the middle game. However, I end up blundering under time pressure or losing on time.

Also I often don’t understand why Stockfish recommends the moves that it does.

This game is an especially heartbreaking example. I missed a bunch of Stockfish moves in the middle game, but still ended up a knight in material, but ended up blundering checkmate by trying to play fast at the end.

I love your content despite being frustrated with my lack of ability to learn and apply it. Keep up the good work.

              • @louvoodooyahoo-com Louis, at move 30 when you had your rook behind the a pawn. If you just push it all the way and force white to put their rook in front of it, then you can use your knight or king to either hunt the rest of the pawns or go and chase the rook away. When you’re in time pressure, you want to identify easy and simple things like that plan I just mentioned so that you don’t end up blundering like what happened. Of course that comes with practice but especially when you’re ahead you want to look for those “simple” things to finish off the game easily. Hope that helps!
