  • I started at 100 elo. I played 31 games in a row. I won 27 of them. I went straight to 600 In one sitting…. I think I can go father If I got this far with only 4 losses. WE will see….. wish me luck… gang.

  • I was about 700 ELO then I got this course. I started to be aware of any Blunders ( I could find ) I fell down to about 300 ELO. I must have been blundering everywhere, my opponent too. Now I am much more solid and climbing past 500. Maybe this game is extra hard for me lol. I took an ELO test on Lischess? They said I am 840…. I am confused…

At that level, you’re almost certainly blundering full pieces, or missing capture of your opponent’s blundered pieces. If you can’t do both those checks every move, use a longer time control. Beyond that, follow Nelson’s principles in this course. You’re probably just hurrying / impatient / tilting.

    • I can beat the bots ranked 1200 ELO but have trouble reaching 500 ELO….. Any guesses why that is ?

      • The Elo ranking for the bots is mostly a made up number; a 1200 Elo rated bot does NOT play like a 1200 Elo rated human. Or even a 500 Elo rated human. The bots blunder in much different ways that a human would and humans play things the bots never would.

Also, what time controls do you use? Are you playing 10 minute games against humans but… Read more

      • I just played a game at 99.1 % accuracy. I feel It might be a long time before I do that again lol.

      • So lol after watching the ( Blunder section of this course. My ELO went from almost 700 down to about 300. I have been analyzing why? I have come to a few conclusions. I am slowly Inching back up to 500. I am learning that ( Calculating everything ) Is the only way. Before every single move. I go through the Blunder Check List. I look at what…

10 minutes is too short for good learning, IMO.. I do blitz once I think I have so openings down and want to explore many responses to it more rapidly. Otherwise 15 min is probably better if you’re still blundering.

          • Nelson suggested 10 minutes or longer back when he did his live feed.

          • Help My fellow chess ,,,, Um what are we ? Anyway lol. I am embarrassed. I have been playing chess Sooo Much for about 6 Months straight. This course Is helping me NOT blunder. However I can play a game and NOT blunder BUT lose or have No attacking Ideas. I am only at about 500. I was at 700 Prior to this course. However I am positive Myself…

            • Have you analyzed your games afterwards to see what the computer would have done ? In chess.com the game review is good, however the self analysis lets you look at areas where the advantage was won or lost by small or large amounts and then lets you see what the better move along with the counter moves could have been at many or few levels ( your choice ).

            • hi happy to review one of your games, what’s your user name

              • Tim

Share the link to a game that it’s not obvious to you where you went wrong.. generally you can find it with reviewing or analyzing.

              • My rating has dropped from about 700 to 400 after following the Blunder check list Nelson provided. Is there any explanation for this anyone can think of? I know he said it gets worse before It gets better… Is this what he meant ? Any help or Input would be greatly appreciated.

                • Could be a number of things.

                  1. When learning something new it is common to go backwards for a while because you’re thinking about a lot more than before and it takes a while to sort it all out.

                  2. How did you determine initially 700?

Are you using the same criteria?

Could it be you have been playing cheaters?

There is no way having more…

                • My progress? You’ll like this one. I was playing a 1000 rated not. Doing pretty well, up 7 points mid game. Then it hung a knight that I could take with my queen. Checked all across the board and yup, The queen was safe , all my other pieces were safe so I took it. It’s queen flew all the way diagonally across the board to checkmate my…

( or something like that ).

They happen all the time and our ability to spot them and take advantage of them can make all the difference.

Some games I’ve lost ( to people ) prove that point. In analyzing those games afterwards I’ve noticed that the other person blundered and unfortunately I didn’t see it…

                  • The check the King and Queen and everything before each move seems pedantic. However I am doing it and seeing things I otherwise would have missed. It Is taking me longer BUT. Less Blunders. Nelson Is correct. THE ONE TIME YOU DON’T CHECK. U LOSE. LOL

                  • HELP anyone please… I open with the Italian…. Once I castle ( asap ) I get attacked . I seem to corner my King it feels. What to do? Please anyone? TY In advance .

                    • Tim

Maybe bring some more pieces out and optimize, keeping your options open for which side to castle, even.. and you’ll always be ready to castle in one move.
