  • I hit my goal of 800 last week and was over the moon, then in no time I just hit 900 today. Never seems real lol. Thank you Nelson and thanks everyone in here, chess has helped give me a distraction and a place to escape. I needed this 🙂

  • Hey everyone!

Does anyone else feel like they only win games because the opponent loses? That may sound obvious, but it feels as though the only times I win is when they royally mess something up, to whereas when I lose, it’s because they completely destroy me lol,

    Really hoping to get better

    • It’s called modesty !! You must cause their ” messing up ” by your play !!

      • I feel that way as well. Hoping to get better too.

        • Yes, that happens to me as well. There are 3 types of wins in chess (at least for me): attacking wins, opponent blunders and slow-playing. Of course, there is still the ‘opponent disconnects and loses on time’ win. The attacking wins feel great like you’ve actually accomplished something; the ones where your opponent blunders make me feel…

            • One of the people that you beat is on some other website right now talking about how they got destroyed by you 🙂 It’s all relative.

            • Hey Nelson,

Thanks for this! I’m finding that my main problem is my overall vision. As the game progresses, I forget about everything and focus on what’s happening where the pieces are moving. I’m losing focus on the ENTIRE board so I hope this course can help me! I know you have mentioned “tunnel vision” before on YouTube so I really need to…

              • I have this exact problem, especially when I’m low on time D:
Here’s a meme I created from one of my own games to help describe to my chess coach what I was seeing when I made a game losing blunder

              • I usually like to ask myself the question every time a move is played: “What changed about the position?” And by doing this EVERY single move I sort of keep track of everything little by little. Of course there are moments when you have to stop and consider the board as a whole, but most of the time I already have a good idea of what’s going…

                • Same problem. I see tactics in the middle game pretty well. But I play a lot of 2/1 bullet (bad way to learn, I know…but I love the rush) and once clock hits 10 seconds and I’m only getting a 1 second increment, my vision goes to hell.

Faster time controls just teaches me to rush and blunder.. developing bad habits to not check “what changed in the position” so I don’t carry it over to longer games.. totally not worth it, IMO (if you want to get better).
