John M posted an update
I am looking for friendly advice. Things are getting pretty frustrating for this 1200 player on Chess.com due to much more suspected cheating than I anticipated. E.g., my opponent used Stockfishe’s #1 choice move THREE times in the same game. Maybe for a GM that wouldn’t be suspicious, but for a 1200 player like me, that should be absolute!
My question is, what can I do and/or where can I play to avoid cheaters?
Thanks in advance for your kind help.

Best way to avoid cheaters is to check their profile before you make your first move. Abort any games with brand new accounts. The newer the account, the greater the likelihood you’ll find a cheater since they have to create new accounts every time they get banned.

I am playing someone who seems to be similar. They are not platinum on chess.com but I am. We are 15 moves in and the play is still following an Explorer thread, which, to me, seems very unusual. It is always the top move, too. I wouldn’t have thought about it, except that I saw this post. (He joined in Feb) Many of mine are, as well, but I do try to evaluate the top few and decide which one to play. Is he cheating? Am I by using the Explorer?

@kincaid-clancomcast-net it is just my opinion, but if chess.com makes the explorer available in game then they, by definition, do not count it as “cheating”.

Thanks, Keith. That’s what I was thinking.

Doesn’t matter as much to me since I’m bouncing between 600-700, but I am pretty frequently running into players that are running 90%+ accuracy in our games. That is pretty suspicious for a 600 rated player, so I’ve been wondering the same.

Playing the top move 3 times in a game at 1200 actually sounds low to me. I’m rated ~1100 and did a quick check of the game I played last night. The game went 25 moves, I played the top engine move 12 times and my opponent played it 8 times. Now, a lot of these were simple recaptures where the best move was clear. But still, we both played more than 3 where the best move was less obvious. (Of course, we also both missed moves that were blinding obvious in hindsight.)
I know that cheating definitely happens, but I feel like I’m doing a disservice to my own development if I assume that I’m losing because my opponent is cheating.
