Getting past the 1350-1400 level is frustrating and hard. This game i felt i was doing fine and then got outplayed right around move 18. I should have played my bishop to A6 vs. E6. Move 14 he has 3 attackers to 2 defenders on that pawn. I like Ne7 there to stop the attack. Losing that rook was the defining moment.

Yeah, move 18-20 was when the evaluation bar swung to your opponent’s favor. But your opponent missed too many moves to make me think anything nefarious. It is more likely that he is not that familiar with end game strategy and that is why it took him so long; he missed several opportunities to take your bishop and missed most of them. I… Read more

What setting in chess.com allows all the piece arrows that Nelson uses in the videos? i must have disabled it years ago but was thinking of trying it out again. thanks.

i don’t think it is a feature you can disable at least not in the current version of chess.com you just hold down the right mouse button and drag the cursor to the desired square but i have seen some old post where there is a setting under board where it has an option to turn off the…

Thank you! i honestly had never right clicked before and now see the arrows. i also dont often play on the desktop computer until recently. a lot of my games are on mobile. but i am going to try and build this into my chess skills when i play on my computer.

How do we know which ELO we really are? What i mean by that is we all have different ratings on different game speeds.
I’m a 953 on bullet (havent played that much in a long time)
1130 on Blitz but often lose on timeouts.
1321 on Rapid and prefer this more and more.
1594 on daily because you have so much time to think about moves and play…

In my (ignorant) opinion, daily or rapid is closest to actual OTB tournament ratings. Try the 10|5. rapid. It is a decent compromise.

I agree with Charles…I use 15|10 rapid for my main elo. I use daily for calculation development and Blitz for opening practice. The ELO of those two do not worry me. This approach helps me not stress much about my rating.

Danny, if you were to go to OTB (over-the-board) tournaments the time control is usually much longer, so your longest time control rating is probably closest to your actual rating. That being said, if you don’t play much in that time control, it might not be adjusted to what it should be. Hope that helps!
