Depends what you mean by “clever tactic”. Most of the time you’ll be able to notice the tactics if you’re familiar with them (pin, fork, skewer, discovered check, etc…). If it truly is an amazing tactic then maybe you’re opponent is too strong, but I’m guessing that’s pretty rare. Hope that helps!

I wanted to play as Guest on chess.com and picked “Intermediate” and let it choose an opponent. Not sure what rating range of that is or the rating of the player.

If you’re unsure of your rating on chess.com then it is very likely 1200 is quite a bit higher than you will want to be starting at. If you are fairly new to it then either 400 or 800 rating would likely be the best place to start. Though without seeing your games or knowing your history I cannot really say.

I had to go through the Chapter 4 on tactics twice. Even then, the Advanced and Master level moves were difficult to spot for me. Maybe because it is hard to imagine the moves mentally on my mind.
