• I’m working on consistently applying the anti-blunder process that you recommend. I had a process before but I believe that yours is easier to apply and more comprehensive, although I admit to tweaking it just a tad to my satisfaction.

      This weekend, I played an OTB tournament and my opponent was +441elo on me. I played a near flawless game, Stockfish even said I played a BRILLIANT move 15 (post-mortem review). Stockfish evaluation indicated that I began to pull an advantage with each passing move. Then on move 21… where I thought I saw a free knight, it happened. Because I didn’t look at all the other pieces, I missed his bishop was protecting that square and lost the attacking rook. I tried, but couldn’t recover from there. I was mated at move 37.

      @ChessVibes How long does it take to ingrain the habit? I believe that blunders are preventing me from progressing.

      Can this be quantified in training hours? Is there a recommendation on how to train it? Pretty regularly, I do puzzles and try to apply it but it’s still new to me.

        • Hey James, unfortunately there’s no set time limit I can give you. In fact, I still blunder from time to time(see the most recent rating climb on YouTube…). But ideally you should notice that you blunder less and less… The fact that you made it most of that game should be an encouraging sign! Blunders will always happen, but the goal is to minimize them as much as possible. The best way to practice it is to just keep playing and paying close attention to that process for every single move of the game.

          • @ChessVibes Thanks for the reply. I’ll try to give myself some grace but I forget to do it more often than I run the checklist…still trying to make it habit.

            • @ChessVibes I do recall you saying in the course that if you know the opening, no need to checklist. Often when it happens, I feel like I’m still in my opening book, as I get into a rhythm and that’s what causes me to forget and blunder. I guess (???) I’m still figuring out what works for me.
