Re: Stonewall: if I open with d4 and they play c5, should I take or stick to the opening and let them take? Or do I push pawn to d5?

      • It depends on what you are comfortable with. d5 is the better move by the engine, but you the playing a more open Benoni Structure instead of a more closed off Stonewall. I prefer the positions after dxC5 (…. e6 3. Nc3 BxC5 4. Ne4 Be7, Nd6+ Bxd6, Qxd6). In that position you have the bishop pair, active queen that can’t be tempo’d easily and preventing their development while you have a pretty easy development plan. They also might go 2. … Qa5+ 3. Nc3 QxC5 — but then you get to develop the Bishop with a tempo and have an early lead in development and can kick their queen around. — I think that letting them take you is probably the worst of the options. I hope this helps!

I always take the c5 pawn and let them take back later so I don’t lose a tempo.
