I just got a victory with someone about 300+ rating than me (in blitz, in rapid I’m close to 1200 but in blitz ~1000) with 3 brilliant moves and 3 blunders. I feel like this completely sums up my strengths and weaknesses 😛

This is a game where I played with someone 600 points over me (they are at 1700s I’m at 1100s from 1000 when I started the course). Can you maybe talk about how to take this next step or what to look out for? (we ended in a draw because he accepted it, I think out of respect).

It’s a good plan to push pawns and bring your queen when they O-O-O. You just need to figure out your plans and your timing, in my experience that’s the hardest part usually at this level. Try to target the pawns in front of the King and try to keep the center closed so they can’t sneak in easily, that’s what has helped me at least but of…

Also a thing I realized (though I’m not always following my own advice 😛 ) is to stop worrying about losing ELO. I always stopped playing when I reached a milestone (like 800/900/1000/1100 etc) because I felt good about reaching it and then stayed there and switched game type. But you will get the ELO you are actually at sooner or later. The…

For me, after I got through the openings chapter, I stated watching one video a day and then playing games after that, while consciously trying to apply the principles explained. For example I used to play London/Pirc’s but just to adjust to the course and learn through I’m playing these new openings (and having fun with Owen’s to be honest).…

Sometimes, in Owen defense, they chase my horse around in the beginning instead of developing. I did end up winning with a brilliant move (which was the only move to be fair) but is there a better idea when they play e5? Because the analysis says move and then move back but I’m blocking the dark square bishop here. I could fiancetto it I guess…
