I have a question regarding how ELO points are calculated for win-lose. I have played a few games where my opponent has disconnected right after a major blunder or it was clear they were going to get checkmated. Why do they disconnect instead of resigning? Do they lose less points this way or are they being poor sports? Thanks for any insight.

It’s just tilt/rage quitting. It doesn’t change their ELO points loss.

Chess.com uses something called the Glinko system for rating games. It is similar to the Elo rating, but also takes into account how accurate they feel your rating is.
Also, the Elo rating system gets its name from its creator Arpad Elo. It is not an acronym.
