  • I have another question if I may: My ELO is 500-600 on Rapid (15:10 games) vs my ELO on daily games of 800-900. I noticed some of the others I have played in my range are also doing the same thing – +300.

    Playing Daily games on chess.com is like doing a chess puzzle for me and after a few minutes I can figure it out.

    I have only been playing…

    • I have a 600 rating difference between Rapid (766) and Daily (1344). Daily games give you much more time to consider moves and the analysis tool which is indispensable for blunder checks so I play much better on daily. I think all the streamers playing 10 minutes games gives us mere mortals false expectations.

      If you are winning 15 minutes…

      • Daily (or correspondence) games are just different than playing Rapid (or OTB in person). You will typically see that daily games will be a higher rating simply because you have more time to make your moves (less likely to blunder pieces and you have plenty of time to calculate multiple lines and choose the best one). In Rapid games,…

      • OK, I just got a message from chess.com that I lost to a cheater. “We have detected that one or more of your recent opponents has violated our Fair Play Policy. As compensation for potentially unfair rating losses, we adjusted your following ratings:

        Rapid: 563 + 7 => 570″

        How do I know who the cheater was?

        On some of my daily games I noticed…

        • If you view your game history you will see the cheater has been banned and there is 🚫 beside their name.

          One of the things I’ve seen Nelson, GothamChess, Hikaru, and others look for is the length of time it takes for each move, but that will be useless for a daily game. Other clues are new accounts with high ratings and long winning…

          • I’ve only reported someone once, and their play was really fast. Their record showed a massive improvement in rating over a very short time and won the last 10 games in a row. I didn’t accuse of cheating just rating manipulation. I don’t mind losing but it felt like it merited a second look.

            I didn’t know you could check on them for a red…

          • James Bryce, an English philosopher from the 1800s once said, “ 3/4 of the mistakes a man makes are because he doesn’t know what he THINKS he knows.” That said, i struggle with tunnel vision, whereby i am so focused on MY plan/strategy i do NOT see those Bishops lurking on the side of the board (or Queen) and lose a key piece. How can i…

            • If you haven’t gotten to it yet, check out the Avoiding Blunders part of the course. I found the blunder check procedure to be really helpful.

              • Same boat as me. ( And thousands of others) I think we’re going to need a bigger boat. I think im playing for the other side at times. It has been said that if we can just avoid blunders we would be among the upper group of players.

                Discipline is what I need. Tunnel vision is my enemy too

                Keep going along with the course and improvement will come.

              • I am now 70 years old and started playing chess in January of 2024. I like it because it challenges my mind and find it extremely frustrating to master. I have watched a ton of YouTube videos & now have an expanding chess library. Having fun! ELO is currently ~500 on Rapid in Chess.com.
