Hi everyone. I hope you are all enjoying and getting as much out of this course as I am.
TACTICS!!! My nemesis. Section 4 in this course. I have always procrastinated/been intimidated to improve this aspect of my game. I am older 54, started playing a few years ago. 1100ish on chesscom and have found it hard to grasp some of the concepts…

Thank you @dgweatherbyhotmail-com – Yes, I am in the same boat with you, but I found it interesting what Nelson said about being good at tactics but not finding them during the game….so, I’m doing better always looking for them. Age is just a number (easy for us to say at our age LOL).

Hi Nelson, just started your course and I am super excited about it. I have a question about time controls. For reference, I am around 1100 elo. I like to play 10+5 rapid games, it allows me to play more games and I do not feel rushed with the increment. It is usually enough time for most of my games but I sometimes run out of time. Is it…

I think either way is fine, but you do need to understand the differences. For example, in a totally winning position where I have increment, I might be okay getting down to 10 or less seconds on the clock, b/c I know I have increment. However, in a game with NO increment, you have to start moving faster sooner, b/c if you get down to 10…
