Just broke 1150, up from 850 to start. In addition to B1500, watching the stonewall speedruns on chessbrah (youtube) has been extremely helpful.

He moves the knight in before the bishop.
OK, I see that it depends on the other side’s bishop move.

I’m starting to have more success in my games. I switched from Chess.com to Lichess, for a change of pace and I’m having more victories. I’m doing something different, which is basically this. Instead of just playing the opening sequence, looking for tactics, and hoping for a break in the position, I’m thinking of two things for each move. 1.…

I’m back up to 954 from 875, using Stonewall and Owen’s exclusively. I revisited the videos on the openings. Nelson covers a lot in those, and there were some aspects that I was overlooking before, when I was losing terribly. I’m still having some issues pulling off the rook lift. I’ve been successful a few times, but I’ve been thwarted many…

Also, with stonewall, what to do when black castles Queenside? What’s the best approach? What about when they don’t castle at all? I need a better plan for both these scenarios.

HI Sean, That’s a couple of tough games there and both your opponents made it difficult. I’m not too far ahead of you in rating terms so take what I say in that context.
In the first one you had a good set up until the queen move to g3. The blunder is because of your Rook getting trapped but thats a hard tactic to see and your opponent missed…

I’ve been practicing stonewall and owen’s defense. Sometimes I can win, but other times I get crushed! Overall, my rating is rising. I played this game, was losing badly, but turned it around with a smothered mate!! So stoked!! Check out this #chess game: SEBAS-BCH vs NerveStrike – https://www.chess.com/live/game/108372601958

I agree about the decisiveness, especially of the owen defense. I too have been absolutely steam rolled a handful of times with it but more often than not it has worked out in my favor.
Ive had mixed results with the stonewall. I think the main benefit of the stonewall in my experience is people expect the either queens gambit or London… Read more
