Man I’ve been trying the stonewall and very often I have been hit with gambits and moves that don’t allow me to play it.
When I actually get the opening I have been delightfuly surprised by how itnis to play buy I just get that so rarely.
Playing people around 1100.
As an example, my last game was 1. d4 e5. Move two I cant do the stonewall at all!
I guess I am just frustrated as I’m trying to learn the opening as your taught it but the games I’m getting are nothing like it.

Yeah Dustin unfortunately there’s nothing you can really do about that, although I will say as you get a bit higher up the rating ladder you’ll see more and more “regular” openings.

Hey Dustin. I ran into the same opening a few days ago. I had no idea what to play, got cooked early, but managed a draw. I didn’t see the winning tactic until the game review.
I hate to recommend other YouTubers in here, but chessbrah has a rating climb YT series purely with the stonewall, which I think is a good supplement. Same for Robert Ramirez. RR specifically got this 1. e5 game in one video. I can’t point you to it specifically, but you’ll find it. Both will give you a lot of games and variations.
Life is just now allowing me to get back into playing, so I only have a couple games with the stonewall so far. I was uncomfortable at first, but with some practice, along with those additional video supplements, I’m starting to really enjoy this recommendation as someone who played the Italian primarily. Thanks Nelson!
