I see a lot of players at my level 680-ish move a pawn then Bc4 and Qh5 when I play owens with black. One guy made a bunch of queen moves and I tried to chase while developing; and finally just resigned in the middle. I suspect people are just trying things out. Thoughts are welcome.

      • Hi Keith, you are absolutely right to just continue developing (as long as your king is safe). Many players in that ELO range try the “Scholars Mate” which is the bishop and queen move you described. To keep the spirit of the Owen’s when they do that, I’d say play knight to F6 is a good move to block that attack and get a tempo with your knight. If you try chasing the queen around with pawns, you need to be cautious because there are some tactics where the queen takes the pawn in front of your king for check, then takes the rook.
