Hi drew, no that doesnt work! If white goes for the black pawns on f and h without getting blacks b pawn white will lose.

whites king needs to go to blacks b pawn. Blacks king cannot go for the three white pawns on f and g file, that will be to slow! Black needs to guard the b pawn, but whites king can move in such a way that when it is above…

the engine estimated your playing at this rating, however it does not reflect your true stength in my opinion. I am currently around 1100 and often play at a 1600-1800 level… but playing opponents at my level is tough enough as it is…..

Hi Nelson, I played an OTB game last monday where I enden up in a pawn/king end game. At the time my opponent offered a draw and I accepted as I couldnt see a win. Ok Nelson. Owens defense remains a struggle witj opponent pushing pawns and therefore the game is straight away on their side. Follow up: after rewatching the video’s for under 800 and watchjng the onces for over 800 upto 1500 i managed to get the hang of it more. Starting to see the various counter moves and how to reply. I started this course around 670 (highest so far 717) and dropped to under 630 and am 707 currently even with blundering my Queen in 2 games. Hurray!… Read more

Ah yes i see! That leaves your tactic better indeed. Only lower rated might go for the Queen I suspect

HI all (and nelson with a question), maybe it is asked already, I havent read all posts. WIth regards to lesson 4.1 the first tactic you show around 2 minute mark, am I right to see a forced checkmate with bishop rather than sacraficising the bishop to recapture it eventually and winning a pawn. does anyone know how the estimated rating in chess.com works. I am currently aorund 650 (bit of a fall last week) yet most of my games (even the ones i lose) are rated by chess.com 800 upto even 1450. A lot of my opponents (same elo as mine or sometimes lower) are also around that level…. curious, thats all!

Thanks 4 replies..the main issue is when the opponent doesnt play in line and i struggle in the middle game. It seems i get stuck within my own stonewall with no moves to play. Opponent then slowly creeps up on me. And with owens opponent often pushes pawns up the board blocking my pieces from getting in action. I will see if i can post a game 4 review
