Hi Nelson, I played an OTB game last monday where I enden up in a pawn/king end game. At the time my opponent offered a draw and I accepted as I couldnt see a win. At home I put the game into chess.com and the engine said I was winning with 5 points advantage. However no matter what I do I cannot seem to win, also other players looked at it and could not see…. I thought it might be a nice position to share for people to learn from your experience, in line with this course. If you want I can share it with you. I have it in chess.com and in a video on my recently started channel…. And if not then not, no probs!!!! cheers Remko

      • Sure I would love to see it.

If you’ve input the game into chess.com you can play it against the computer. Play as your opponent and let Stockfish play your side and see how it goes about it.

        • thanks Keith! I never even thought about that, I did what you said and indeed it was a winning position, through zugzwang, I’ll see if i can share the position. I am not so sure how to do this, so it might take some time

              • white to move and win!!!

                • I am not good at end games, but I still can’t believe white is +5 here. I’m guessing the king goes toward the blacks b pawn as a decoy, then marches up to take one of the the other 2 pawns and created a passer?

Hi drew, no that doesnt work! If white goes for the black pawns on f and h without getting blacks b pawn white will lose.

whites king needs to go to blacks b pawn. Blacks king cannot go for the three white pawns on f and g file, that will be to slow! Black needs to guard the b pawn, but whites king can move in such a way that when it is above the b pawn (a5), it will use the f4 pawn to create zugzwang, when black needs to abandon the b pawn, so white can capture. Black can go for whites a2 pawn, but white will be quicker to reach blacks f and h pawns than black will reach whites f and g pawns, winning the race for promotion!!!
