  • Hi Nelson, I played an OTB game last monday where I enden up in a pawn/king end game. At the time my opponent offered a draw and I accepted as I couldnt see a win. At home I put the game into chess.com and the engine said I was winning with 5 points advantage. However no matter what I do I cannot seem to win, also other players looked at it…

  • HI all (and nelson with a question), maybe it is asked already, I havent read all posts. WIth regards to lesson 4.1 the first tactic you show around 2 minute mark, am I right to see a forced checkmate with bishop rather than sacraficising the bishop to recapture it eventually and winning a pawn. Here is my take on it. I am not familiar yet…

    • You are correct IF black takes the queen. But instead of that they can play Be6 and block the checkmate. However, that is still a great position for white and is another acceptable line. Hope that makes sense!

  • does anyone know how the estimated rating in chess.com works. I am currently aorund 650 (bit of a fall last week) yet most of my games (even the ones i lose) are rated by chess.com 800 upto even 1450. A lot of my opponents (same elo as mine or sometimes lower) are also around that level…. curious, thats all!

    • Yes, I see that rating for games is usually higher than your analysis review score. May be chess.com just to pump you up!

    • Ok so i have lost 70 % of all my games since playing stonewall and owens defence… way more than average. Any1 else having same?

      • Lost 50 elo points since implementig

        • Didn’t try the stone wall since I really like the Vienna for white. but for black, the owens defense seems to be very solid and the bishop is super powerful.

          • How many games have you played? I lost my first two but then went on to win 4 in a row but as I posted earlier, I was only able to get the owens set up one time and then the other games I didn’t have a chance to get owens or stonewall going so had to rely just on basic chess principles. I’m around 560 Elo so I just think its more unpredictable.

            • Remko are you losing out of the opening or making mistakes later? Remember, the opening generally isn’t what causes the wins and losses most of the time. It’s probably a mistake later in the game, especially if you’re following the recommended ides from Module 3. Feel free to post a game and I might be able to help you more.

            • Remko if it helps, I often show an immediate dip when learning a new opening because I don’t have a good feel for it at first. If someone plays directly into the main line, then I’m like “this is awesome, I love it!” But then someone takes it down a sideline and I make mistakes.

Take a look at my profile below. When I start trying to learn a new…
