  • Breaking 1500 Members Tournament – Update

    Hi all,

The survey results are in! Most players prefer a Swiss format and 10-minute time control. While there was interest in a 15/10 increment (including mine), I believe the 10-minute option will allow for more games in a reasonable timeframe.

Since we have many players in North America, I’ve split the…

    • Looks good. I should be free on Feb 16 unless my wife drags me to church. *lol* — I also don’t know how the Chess.com tournament software works. Is it possible to assign people to a tournament game and then give them a timeframe to complete it? That might make it possible to do longer time controls. I.e. We do a 30 minute tournament, but…

        • Lol Nate. I see what you’re saying and I think it makes sense as it would allow for much more flexibility. I think the only thing we should do is keep the time controls consistent so it’s an equal playing ground. So, we can start with 10 in the first iteration, then move to 15 / 10 increment in the next one. After that, if all goes well, I’ll…

          • Looking back at it, I can’t believe how much I used to blunder (I was not new to chess by any means in early 2024)! The pictures below show an analysis of some of my losses in early and late 2024. In all of my losses (from a random sample of matches), I blundered more than 3 times in every single match. A personal favourite was one match in…

            • “A personal favourite was one match in early 2024 where I blundered 13 times!!”

I got a good chuckle from this as I recently read a chess.com forum post where a user said, “it’s not a blunder if your opponent blunders harder”. To get 13 blunders in one game means your opponent was blundering just as hard as you were. LOL.

              And kudos on the…

              • Keith, for the record I just whizzed through some of those games from early 2024. Those numbers I put down were actually wrong. I guess maybe I used to think mistakes and misses were blunders? Either way, I still made enough of them in practically every game.

Glad you had a laugh at least!!

              • I blundered a piece earlier on in the game so I went down in material. To add further frustration, it was a mouse slip. My opponent gained himself a significant advantage on the clock.

But, at multiple stages, I kept remembering a line that Nelson said, “Wait until your opponent slips up.” Eventually, that opportunity arose. With 2 seconds left…
